Stedelijk Museum: Rent A Room

What is art? Something's art in the eye of the beholder. What is a museum without art objects? That's simply a house. The Dutch Stedelijk Museum is awaiting a giant rebuild. Therefore, all art objects are replaced to a temporary building close to Amsterdam Central Station. The museum itself is empty. What to do with it? Yesterday, the Dutch tv program NOVA showed the answer: the new museum director Gijs van Tuyl is using the empty building as his living space. He showed a camera team around: one of the halls is his living room, another is his bedroom. Very inventive. But what does Van Tuyl exactly know about art? NOVA broadcasted a scene in which he curiously watched some painting, but it appeared to be rubbish the construction men left behind. But isn't it art in the eye of the beholder?
