9/11 Webcomic Tribute

In retrospective, Comicbase reviews a 9/11 Webcomic Tribute Project by a couple of Americans. The project eventually got lost, but one of the artists (Neal Von Flue) re-hosted it on his website. Take a look!

Poor, Poor Fredric Wertham...

Today, I published my column about Fredric Wertham, the notorious psychiatrist whose influence has led to the Comics Code being installed. Wertham's comment on crime comics: ‘Here is the repetition of violence and sexiness which no Freud, Krafft-Ebing or Havelock Ellis ever dreamed could be offered to children, and in such profusion.’

XIII Hits The States, No Titties!

The famous European action series "XIII" (by William Vance & Jean Van Hamme) is about to conquer America. Newsarama has an interview with the publisher, Mike S. Miller. He also answers questions by the public about the CENSORSHIP in the comic, to make it acceptable for the American comic market. Poor Americans... let's see what they'll miss!

Stedelijk Museum: Rent A Room

What is art? Something's art in the eye of the beholder. What is a museum without art objects? That's simply a house. The Dutch Stedelijk Museum is awaiting a giant rebuild. Therefore, all art objects are replaced to a temporary building close to Amsterdam Central Station. The museum itself is empty. What to do with it? Yesterday, the Dutch tv program NOVA showed the answer: the new museum director Gijs van Tuyl is using the empty building as his living space. He showed a camera team around: one of the halls is his living room, another is his bedroom. Very inventive. But what does Van Tuyl exactly know about art? NOVA broadcasted a scene in which he curiously watched some painting, but it appeared to be rubbish the construction men left behind. But isn't it art in the eye of the beholder?
